Sinus Lift

Smile MakeoverWhat is a Sinus Lift?

The maxillary sinuses are on both sides of your nose, and on top of the upper teeth (only molar at the back). These sinuses are empty, air-filled spaces. Roots of the upper molar teeth extend up into the maxillary sinuses. When these upper molar teeth are removed the sinuses become bigger and the bone separating the maxillary sinus and the mouth is lost. Dental implants need bone for placement and long term success.

IMPLANTS with a SINUS LIFT

A sinus lift is surgery that adds bone to your upper jaw in the area of your molars and premolars. It’s sometimes called a sinus augmentation. The bone is added between your jaw and the maxillary sinuses, which are on either side of your nose. This new grafted bone can be seen in the radiographs / xrays. most of the time artificial bone is used. Sometimes the patient’s own bone is harvested and mixed with the synthetic bone.

Now dental implants can be placed in this new grafted bone. One can put a single crown after sinus lift procedure or a bridge if more teeth are missing .
